The beach is a magical place, surprising you with something different at every turn. We have had our family home in Corolla for about 35 years, yet I still see new things each year.
After several 70 degree days, the temperatures dropped… leaving us with one of the coldest weekends we have experienced in Corolla in March. Bundled in my coat, hat and gloves I took my dog to the beach towards the end of the day.
Except for a local surfer, my dog and I were the only ones on the beach. As I reached down to pick up a piece of sea glass, the sky turned from gray to a bright clear sunshine. I stood up straight and felt something gently touch my face. Placing my hand to my cheek, I felt the cold and was stunned.
Looking around, I caught sight of a large flake flying past me. And another. Soon I was looking up to a bright sky filled with large white flurries gently falling. As the flakes lightly landed on my face, the ocean was sparkling, the wind was blowing and the surfer was floating up and down on each swell.
On my way home I took a picture of Moon on the stairway. It wasn’t until later that I realized you can see snowflakes moving across him.
I have never been on this beach in the snow. The combination of everything around me left me frozen in place. It was an experience I will remember for a lifetime. One of those moments in time that is truly nothing short of spiritual.
The ocean is a wondrous and powerful thing.
I will be posting this Tuesday in addition to my regular Thursday for the March photo challenge. I hope to see you there!
