Snow in Corolla

The beach is a magical place, surprising you with something different at every turn. We have had our family home in Corolla for about 35 years, yet I still see new things each year.

After several 70 degree days, the temperatures dropped… leaving us with one of the coldest weekends we have experienced in Corolla in March. Bundled in my coat, hat and gloves I took my dog to the beach towards the end of the day.

Except for a local surfer, my dog and I were the only ones on the beach. As I reached down to pick up a piece of sea glass, the sky turned from gray to a bright clear sunshine. I stood up straight and felt something gently touch my face. Placing my hand to my cheek, I felt the cold and was stunned.

Looking around, I caught sight of a large flake flying past me. And another. Soon I was looking up to a bright sky filled with large white flurries gently falling. As the flakes lightly landed on my face, the ocean was sparkling, the wind was blowing and the surfer was floating up and down on each swell.

On my way home I took a picture of Moon on the stairway.  It wasn’t until later that I realized you can see snowflakes moving across him.

I have never been on this beach in the snow. The combination of everything around me left me frozen in place. It was an experience I will remember for a lifetime. One of those moments in time that is truly nothing short of spiritual.

The ocean is a wondrous and powerful thing.

I will be posting this Tuesday in addition to my regular Thursday for the March photo challenge.  I hope to see you there!

  • That was magical indeed. I would have been in awe too.

I linked Moon to my Awww Mondays post. He’s a cutie pie.

    Have a fabulous day. ☺

    • Thank you! Moon is SUCH an amazing dog… we are blessed to have him. Thank you for linking me!!!

  • Hey Katherine! Snow on the beach IS an oddity, but I only have eyes for that heroic pooch! <3 (and you, obviously) Indigo x

    • Yea with my new haircut, I don’t blame you for looking at the dog. ;D

You would actually LOVE Moon… you are a dog person – he is so personable. AND heroic! 🙂

Katherine, I love how you expressed that because I could SEE everything you discribed so vividly!

My favorite time to go to the beach is on a day like you had. I love walking along the beach during the fall and winter months because the beach is so deserted. And there is also something very calming and serene about it.

Faaaaaabulous photographs! OMG…that last one of the birds flying over the rolling waves is AMAZING!

Have a super week, my friend!

    • Thank you Ron! I love that one…. I always grumble when Moon wakes me up early, but then I get to see things like that. And you are right… the beach is deserted. It is so spiritual… the ocean, the sand… you become a small part of this vast, majestic thing!

  • I once had snow in my Corolla when I left the windows open.
    Beautifully written.

    • Thank you! I hope you think to roll up your windows in the rain… the inside of Corollas and water don’t mix!
