Today and tomorrow and the photo challenge will be done.  I am actually a little sad!  Today’s theme is “Circle.”

Okra.  A slimy, sticky circle of green.  Yet, when coated in cornmeal and fried in bacon fat, a side dish fit for a king!

It’s a Southern Thang!

  • I’ve got to admit, I’ve never had okra. Does the cornmeal get rid of the slime?

    • Absolutely! There is no slime whatsoever when you fry it. Even my kids love it!

  • I’ve never eaten this and I’m not sure I could face the consistency. I hate slime 🙂

Amen. Yes, fried okra is nothing like what you sometimes get in your gumbo! Love it.

    That’s a great photo!

  • oooww, I want some. Bacon mmmm

  • It’s a really pretty vegetable, but I rarely eat fried foods and haven’t had anything fried in bacon fat for decades. Dear gawd, I’m old.

    “It’s a Southern Thang!”

It sure is, Katherine. And when I was still living in Florida, I knew a married couple (from Georgia) who would sometimes invite me for a typical southern dinner on Sunday evenings. I LOVE southern food!

  • I’ve had delicious okra dishes at some Indian places. Done wrong though, it can be pretty gross. Love the photo too 🙂

  • I like Okra Winfrey.

  • What are those webs jutting out from the okra? It looks alien to me. Then again the kitchen is alien to me.

  • I’ve never had okra. And I’m not sure I’d want to. But that’s still a great picture, Katherine.

    Never heard of okra…looks interesting.

  • Okay, I have to admit, I had no idea what that was before I read the tags. What a weird looking thing!

  • It is a southern thing and here in Kansas people don’t even know what okra is let alone how to fry it up. Thankfully, I get to go to places in the South from time to time.

Good one, Katherine! You got everyone loving the okra and missing the fact it isn’t quite a “circle”, is it!? 😀

  • OMG. I love Okra!

Also – I’m sorry I’m so late to comment here – I missed the last 2 days of the challenge because I’ve been having a terrible flare up. But I am trying to catch up with all of the posts I’ve missed!
