In the Pink… Hair!
Published on Monday, October 8, 2012 by

What a timely photo challenge topic… “Hair.”  Because this is Breast Cancer Awareness month, which means it is time to pink up my hair.

Here’s to my mother, a breast cancer survivor.  And Trish, this one is for you as well.  You had to leave too soon.  Sarah, keep fighting.  You are so damn strong.

Such a small thing – a wisp of curled pink hair.  Yet the feeling behind it is huge.

Please.  If you have someone to mention yourself, I would be honored if you mentioned her here.

such a powerful pic…. My sister in law Suzanne is a survivor 🙂

  • Nice sentiment. I’m with ya.

  • What a great idea! I might have to borrow this idea. My aunt/godmother is a survivor. She was just declared cancer free a few months ago.

  • This month is close to my heart for so many reasons. Huzzah for wearing your pink!

During October most NASCAR teams run at least one week with pink paint schemes. Yesterday’s race had about 6 cars in their finery. I love that these teams do this every year.

    • That’s awesome! I also like seeing the “tough football players” in pink or pink shoes… I think it is amazing when sports people wear pink in October!

  • I absolutely LOVE this, well, not the cancer part, but the pink hair. What an awesome idea!

what an great tribute to your loved ones.

    • Thanks… there are so many women I’ve met who are fighting this or have fought it… such strong women!

  • Oh Katherine, this is such a wonderful post, a beautiful tribute.

  • Wow! That is some really great pink hair! I want some too!

    • Oh Oh Linda guess what I saw this weekend… a standard poodle with DYED PINK FUR… it was awesome!

I’ve seen a lot of people with pink in their hair lately, but I never made the connection with cancer awareness. I just thought it was a cool look, but now I will look at it in a different way

    • That’s awesome!!! I haven’t seen anyone yet, but now I’m going to look! Especially this month.

  • Definitely perfect timing on this one! Cool! Pink hair!

    • My niece dyed her entire head of hair pink for a few years… light pink… she is the genius who got 100 percent on her SAT’s… AND ACT’s… people would think one thing about her upon seeing her pink hair and then find out something quite different after speaking with her. I think hair dye can be a lot of fun!

  • That is such a fantastic way to show your love and support. I had not seen anyone doing that before!

    • I don’t remember what gave me the idea… although I have always played with my hair in one way or another.. the result of working in a hair place in high school.

I adore the tribute. And I'd ask for prayers for Adrienne who's in the midst of treatment for her breast cancer.

    Thank you….hugely.

    • PRAYERS FOR ADRIENNE… ABSOLUTELY. Tonight my daughter and I will say a prayer for her just before we go to bed!

  • Paula Wooters

    Love it! A perfect tribute!

    Excellent post, Katherine!

  • I have to admit that I thought I was witnessing some horrible carnage in that first picture. I’ve been watching too many halloween shows, methinks.

Here’s what I like about this picture/s: It indicates that you’re both a caring person, and a little wild. It’s the wild part that I’m drawn to, frankly. But caring is also nice, no doubt about it.

    • Ha ha! A little wild… guilty as charged… but I don’t let people know… they have to find out LOL!

  • Coco

Wow! It’s for your wonderful mom and you were able to do a good job for this challenge too! Nice!

    • I look back 19 years ago.. I was pregnant with my first child… she had a breast removed two weeks before I gave birth… she was and is such a fighter…. I can’t image raising my children without her!

  • I’d like to mention my friend, Andie, who left us too soon, but also my aunt who is ten years cancer free. Thanks for doing this. The pink hair is gorgeous and very, very pink!!!

    • Selma… it tones down after a day or two… but I actually wish it didn’t. I choked up reading about Andie… but was so happy to hear about your Aunt… it put a big smile on my face!

  • Bravo! Great idea. What a wonderful way to raise awareness.
