Pandora’s Box
Published on Thursday, February 12, 2015 by

On February 6, 2015, my mother looked at me and said, “Do you know what today is?” It took me a moment to realize it was the 19th anniversary of my father’s death. I felt that familiar knot begin to form in my stomach.

She continued, “So with today being what it is, imagine how I felt when I opened my mailbox and found this.”

She held up a post card from Pandora’s Unforgettable Moments in Des Peres, Missouri.  With what I am sure was a puzzled face, I took the card from her hand and began to read.

unforgettable moments

It was an ad for a Pandora Bracelet, sent strategically a week before Valentine’s Day.

“Look who it is addressed to.”

Hmmm. It was addressed to Dad.

“Now look at what it says in the paragraph on the left.”

So my father came back from the dead and instead of visiting us, he went to Pandora? And of all places, he was resurrected in Missouri?

Pandora? If you see my father again, since you DID say you look forward to seeing him soon, can you send him our way? Because we sure do miss him.

And sending this to my mother on the anniversary of my father’s death? Good job. You have definitely opened Pandora’s Box and created a truly Unforgettable Moment.

Exactly, Katherine. And I was thinking the same thing….how appropriate it’s called Pandora because they certainly know how to open Pandora’s Box, don’t they?

I hope you called them to let them know about the screw up.

    • I think my mom deserves a pandora bracelet… but no word from the company! 🙂

  • Some promotional stuff is very clumsily put together, without a thought for any hurt they could be causing to people, when sent out to addresses at random. Can you imagine receiving that if you had lost that person only weeks or months previously?
    Pandora’s Box is right!

    • That would have been bad indeed. Funny, you received the expensive catalogs in the mail. It’s a crazy mail month!

  • Oh this isn’t good at all. I would be beside myself. Goodness. I’m speechless.

Have a terrific day and weekend. 🙂

    • I can’t imagine what advertising list they purchased… obviously a very old one!
