workingout

I joined a gym...

outer banks coffee

and then I drank some coffee (thank you Wes!)...

outer banks catch

and then my son caught a piece of gum surf fishing (no, REALLY!)...

water snake

and then we saw a water snake (my daughter said "Cool!" while a grown man screamed)...

crabbing

and then we hypnotized a crab to set him free...

whalehead fishing

and then my daughter fished while we waited for the fireworks (which were rained out)...

outer banks sunset
and then I marveled at a sunset.

I was sad to go but am happy to be back.  I missed you all!

  • If I didn’t know it was summer, I’d swear the last pic was of snowy hills!

    • You are so right… I hadn’t thought of that.. it really does look like snow. The sand isn’t white in OBX, but it is BEAUTIFUL. 🙂

  • Ron

    Welcome back, Katherine!

Awesome shots! LOVE the one of you hypnotizing the crab. That was BRILLIANT!

Oooooo…and I need to google OBX Coffee to find out more about them because I adore coffee, and am always looking for different brands.

    That’s a gorgeous sunset shot!

    • Wes, who owns Outer Banks Coffee, says he makes more money from shipping coffee out than anything else. They have a webcam which is fun… you can tell people you are there and mug for the camera. I actually haven’t purchased the bean coffee… it is a bit pricey for me. But it smells heavenly. They use the same old grinder they have always had. I’m a huge coffee lover… the darker and stronger the better, in my book!

  • What a lovely time and some interesting catches at the beach.  We had rain here on the 4th, too.  It stopped raining in time for the unofficial fire works to go on anyway.  I heard them all around us, but couldn’t see any. 🙁

    • You are SO RIGHT. It was actually kind of refreshing having no internet… !!!

  • All those things are far more important than blogging.  Just saying.

    Have a terrific day.  🙂

  • That thing the gum is attached to looks like a mini human heart. How weird is that…?

    Sonny.

  • It sounds like it was an amazing trip!  I can’t believe your son caught gum.  What a disappointing catch.

    • I honestly cannot explain the gum. We didn’t have bait so for fun he used pepperoni. So how did a piece of GUM get on the hook, after the pepperoni… My very politically incorrect son said, “The tourons have evolved and learned how to swim…” Sheesh… I RAISED that kid?!

  • Sounds cool. I had no idea you could hypnotise crabs -you are like the Dog Whisperer of the crustacean world. LOL.

    • Selma you made me laugh out loud… the crab whisperer!!!! Have you seen my old post about getting blue crab larvae in my bathing suit BOTTOMS? Yup, I wasn’t a crab whisperer then! ha ha! A few years ago we were trying to get a crab out of a net and a man next to us showed us how to hypnotize them. You turn them over and rub them on the underside and they go completely limp…. pretty neat trick!

  • awesome! enjoy!

  • good pictures,amazing cool!

  • GREAT moments! And they make great blog material. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

  • Lovely!  I am so glad you had a good time.  And you nudged me to remember how lucky I am to live at the shore all year round.  We take so much for granted!
