Mother’s Day Weekend, In Pictures
Published on Sunday, May 12, 2013 by

What better way to share my mother’s day weekend than in pictures.

Don’t worry, Jaws is back in the water.

My son’s shark is back as well.  This baby’s eyes were beautiful.

Currituck BBQ.  Home of the most amazing sweet potato casserole you will ever try.  Think sweet potatoes, sugar, shredded coconut and who knows what else.  I tried to get the recipe out of them but they wouldn’t give in!

The tourists are coming, making this rare off-leash moment a treasure.

FINALLY!  FINALLY!  FINALLY!  I cannot TELL you how thrilled I was that Corolla Ocean Rescue stenciled this on all the beach stairways.  The dunes protect the houses.  Some visitors respect this, others laugh at the “Keep off Dunes” signs and TEAR THEM OUT while climbing on the dunes.  Thank you Corolla lifeguards.  Yet another reason why you ROCK.

My favorite bird, the Carolina Towhee.  My daughter took this, knowing how much I love them.  She did an amazing job at getting the focus just right.

My daughter also captured this blue jay with a tasty treat.  She is a better photographer than I!

I love our deer.

Katherine, this is tooooo ironic because I just read your comment on my Mother’s Day post and said that I hoped you had a great day today. I had a feeling you were at the beach!!!!

Okay, I just have to tell ya, girl…these photos are feakin’ faaaaaaaaaabulous! Especially loved the ones of your children on the dune walkway, the birds and the deer. OMG…I’m totally blown away by how close you got to those deer and the clarity and sharpness of the photos!

Also, that one of the corner of the house, looking out over the dune is stunning! The composition and perspective is truly AWESOME.

And that last shot of the sky is SPECTACULAR!!! That should be in a magazine!

Honestly, and I truly mean this, you are one hell of a photographer. Great eye you have!

Sounds and looks like you had a wonderful and happy mother’s day!

    (((((( You ))))))

    • Ron, guess what… those deer were pretty far actually! I don’t have a professional camera but it actually is pretty good at zooming. I’m lucky in that. I can’t take the lens off though… it stays on.

As I’ve said before, I would LOVE to go on an explore with you with our cameras. I want to see how YOU see things… your eye is so amazing.

  • What a fabulous Mother’s Day you had. At the beach, with your family, your dog, and all nature’s critters. Doesn’t get any better, does it?

    • It got even better when i got home and was able to be with dog number two and child number two as well. I had all my chicks around me that day, although not all at the same time. 🙂

  • What a perfectly wonderful Mother’s Day weekend!

    • It really was Meleah…. I was so lucky. I’ve had some pretty bad mother’s days… not the kids fault!

    Nice article, y2k interesting

Wow…..and he put him back into the ocean. What a good fella!
Amazing shots of the birdies–hand her the camera more often. LOL She done good! And the beach shot, the stair shot……the cute little deer with his wonky antlers..wonderful ones, indeed.
And what an amazing way to spend Mom’s Day. You were gifted, abundantly.

    • I was so blessed to be able to spend the day in such an amazing place. I leave my camera upstairs so the kids can take pictures any time they want – I have seen some really wonderful things from them. My oldest wants me to keep the camera at the beach house but I can’t quite seem to give it up!

When I saw the size of that shark, the first thing that leapt to mind was, “We’re going to need a larger — no, smaller — boat.”

Great photos, Katherine, and it looks like you had a nice weekend for having to be a mom.

  • Barb

    Great pics!!!!!!

    • Thank you! I wish I had a “photographer’s camera….” One day…. 🙂

  • Katherine, there’s some beautiful photos here! Thanks for sharing; I’m glad you had a good day 🙂 Indigo x

    • I could have done without the two hour drive… but my daughter chatted my ear off to keep me awake… we made it home safe!

I didn’t know there were so many deer on the beach. brown troutFishing is my favorite, but there sure isn’t any hope of catching any sharks like you guys did.
