Look Up!
Published on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 by

This month’s photo challenge theme is, “Look Up.”  This is my favorite theme so far – it helped  me to remember to always look up!  That is the downside to being addicted to finding seaglass.  Your eyes are always gazing towards the ground!

  1.  From a hospital bed to looking up at a Frisbee on the beach!

2.  Daughter and cattle dog… UP!

3.  Sometimes when you look up with the naked eye you don’t see the whole picture.  At first glance, these were common pelicans flying along the Outer Banks.  But in zooming in I found that three of these pelicans are banded!

4.  There is a wave coming, fishermen.  Look up!

5.  If you look up in Corolla, you never quite know what you will see.  This OBX mullet can attest to that!

” it helped me to remember to always look up!”

Katherine, I especially love this post because I say the same exact thing – remember to look UP. In a city (particularly a city like New York) you sometimes don’t notice what’s above you because it’s like living in an enclosed world of crowded buildings, that you forget to look up. However, I’ve seen (and captured with my camera) some of the most amazing sights by looking above me.

Fabulous photographs! That last one is an amazing capture. BRAVO!

    • Oh I LOVE your photos where you look up. You capture so many things people walk past every single day… when you are busy you tend to just look straight ahead and forget to see art above… but you always capture the art!

  • Looking up is a good thing.

It’s great to see both your kids thriving.

    Have a fabulous day. ☺

Well timed images, Katherine. A sign of a patient and well prepared photographer. Great reminder to look up from the gutter, smart phone, personal challenges, etc. I’m often surprised by what I captured in a shot which I was unaware of, too, like your pelicans. Don’t think your fishermen needed to worry about the waves, though, they look pretty buoyant. -Timothy (using Donna’s account)

    • That made me laugh out loud! They came down, literally, in camo with coolers of beers. I didn’t see them catch any fish but I think they had a great time!

Fantastic pics from the beach! Glad you looked up from your seagrass search long enough to capture these photos. I love pelicans but have never seen a banded one. And, I love the wing pattern on the OBX mullet.

I so enjoyed all of your photos this month. I’ll bet that OBX mullet would have preferred to look up and see the unlucky fisherman instead of whatever bird that is that’s carrying it away!! That last photo is fantastic!

    Very nice beach shots!
What’s that about the hospital, is that your son?

  • Great beach pics, Katherine, and good advice…to look up because you just never know.

  • As I start the slow process of catching up of months and months of challenge posts …

This is a good way to start. I like the setting, of course. Can’t say I’ve ever seen people fishing like that in the ocean, but very interesting. Cool shots of the pelicans, too! 😀
