Day 15 of the WWFC Writing Challenge asks that we write a piece including the subject, “My Ears Are Ringing.”

Memories washed over Annette, like a wave reaching higher and higher with the rising tide.  Images of her lapped at the edges of Annette’s mind.  Memories she had been blocking for the last two days.

Flashes of her running through the garden.  Giggling as she twirled around in her brand new dress.  Shaking her head so the tiny bells on her earrings jingled.  “Mommy listen!  My ears are ringing!”

Today though, Annette couldn’t hear a single sound as she watched the tiny coffin being lowered in to the ground.

  • Oh, my, that ended abruptly…for Annette. Didn’t see that coming.

  • Oh, gee that is so sad. Sometimes it is the littlest things that we remember with such clarity.

WOW, Katherine….that ending totally caught me by surprise! Brilliantly written!

You are a very talented writer, my friend!

  • Wasn’t expecting that! You have a real knack for surprising us.

    Tears. Sigh.

    Very good, though.

  • What a marvelous descriptive piece of writing! I adore this lovely piece.

You’re coming close to outdoing the classic short story purportedly written by Hemmingway:
“For sale. Baby shoes. Never worn.”

  • Buzz kill… but marvelously done, Katherine!

So brief, but so moving. Well done, Katherine.

  • Omg. TEARS.
