This month’s photo challenge theme is “Morning.”

When we are in Corolla, my dog wakes me early to go outside.  Off season I am often the only one on the beach as far as the eye can see.  Mornings on the beach are my peace and my church.

All of my photos for this month were taken on my early morning walks.  This is the way EVERY morning should be.

  1.  October brought our first frost.  When I walked on to the deck I was greeted by a hawk hunting for his breakfast.

2. The sea oats are protected by law.  They help to keep the dunes intact, protecting homes during storms.

3.  Deer tracks in the sand.  Magical.

4.  Although this beautiful butterfly’s life had ended, it’s beauty certainly remained.

5.  My church.

Good morning to you, too! Your photos this month are a great example of why I think it’s important that photographers don’t always seek the thrill of new subject matter. By returning to photograph the same place over and over, you get to know how the light, vegetation and everything else changes with the seasons…what is ordinary and what is unusual. It’s so clear from your photographs that you know and love this area and I’m glad you share them with the rest of us so we have a chance to attend your church, too.

The lighting in your shots is simply lovely. I really like the burnt orange and blue combination of the sea oats against the ocean. The butterfly made me sad, but left such a beautiful reminder of summer days. All your shots have a subtle beauty about them.

Wow! Such beautiful photos! Thanks for sharing your morning walks with us.

I almost used a photo of a hawk as one of my 5 of this theme too. There’s a hawk in my office park, and I got a photo of him guarding his breakfast early in November:

    • I love the elements in your ‘morning’ world. You have captured life and death of the natural world around you. All your photographs are beautiful and unique, I especially like the sand dunes and deer tracks in along the beach. Thankyou for sharing.

  • What’s not to like about the ocean. I feel the very same about going to church on the beach. Great shots.

    Have a fabulous day. ☺

I am very jealous of your morning walks.

    *thunderous applause*

    And I mean THUNDEROUS!

OMG, Katherine, every single one of these photographs are BEYOND stunning! You, my friend, are sooooooooooo talented with the camera. I am in AWE!

I love all of these, however, the second photo (because of the focus) and the last (because of the lighting you captured) are my FAVS.

WELL done! And I can certainly see why this place is your church.

  • Beautiful shots! I love morning beach walks!

The deer tracks in the sand is a great shot! Both the texture and the line add great interest.

  • What great shots for the morning theme. Love the second one with the sea out of focus and the foreground all set. And that sun in the last shot — magnificent! 😀
