Today was one of those days where you wake up knowing something is wrong. And then you remember.
Indeed, today was the day I had double-duty packing and cleaning and then the final goodbye to the beach house for the season.
How many times I went on the deck to simply look. And smell. And fight to remember. How many times I started to tear up.
On the beach, my mother saw it in my eyes and knew. She said simply, “Don’t look at today as the end. Look at it as the preview of Spring.” Somehow that lifted a bit of the weight off of my shoulders. Wise words, indeed.
My eyes blurred with tears as I pulled out of the driveway for the final time.
As we reached the first stop sign leaving, the deer magically appeared as if to say goodbye.
As a sign of things to come, I arrived home to find my toilets overflowing. And in the bathtub? Pooh and Pee. With Capital “P’s.” Where we bathe… POOH AND PEE.
I have a major major MAJOR plumbing issue.
