Rae, I am so glad you wrote. Tell me about your support group - do you have a lot of people in your area with GP? When I tell people I have gastroparesis they always say they have never heard of it. But yet I know from online that there are quite a lot who have it - I know there is a support group in my area - so if there are that many support groups there are certainly lots who have this "silent" disease. Have you tried taking Align? Of course I'm out now and can't afford to get more, but it really REALLY makes a difference for me. It is over the counter but a bit pricey... you don't see any changes until about a month in to it... but it has enabled me to eat more things and suffer a LOT less from nausea. Of course as you know though, things that work for one of us may not work for another. But it is worth a try - I wonder with your bathroom problems if that would help, since it puts the good bacteria in your digestive tract.

HANG IN THERE!!

Hi I deal with this awful condition. My 3rd year anniversary about this dreaded disease is coming up on Feb. 21st . I was 5 weeks in the hospital and lost 50 lbs in just a little over 5 weeks. i too am on Domperidone and it has saved my life. Most other drugs like Reglan were horrible with their long lists of side affects. I have to also take Carafate to soothe and coat my stomach lining that has been inflamed due to the rotting food that just sits in my tummy. Also take a lot of Miralax, Senocot, stool softeners just to go to the bathroom. I also do a 1/4 bottle weekly of Magnesium Citrate just to go. I asked the pharmasit and she said it was ok in my case. I was on 3 doses of Miralax a day as per my GP doctor but brought it down since it costs so much. Life is horrible with GP. I am trying to now lose a little weight on the South Beach diet and those veggies are slowing everything down. The diet lowered my sugars from over 200 to 116 but I don't lose even on the phase 1 part due to getting backed up. UGH!!!! I belong to a huge GP support group if any one is interested. God bless you for your story. Hugs from another GPer. Rae

Love the post! I just recently discovered that I have this too though not as bad as you. Mine seems to be caused by food allergies, and was wondering if you'd been tested for them? or if I'm off track in my cause-effect though it seems to be the case for me.

Can you cook a few extra things on the weekends and freeze them for yourself? If found I can eat ground turkey.. I put in cilantro, garlic, olive oil, onions (believe it or not - I cook them down)... any spices I feel like at the time... then wrap it in a whole wheat tortilla and add fat-free yogurt. I LOVE it and can tolerate it. Things like that can be cooked in bulk and frozen. What are your symptoms?

It is nice to see your comment - for the past three days I have been so sick to my stomach I can hardly take it... I needed the lift in spirits to say the least! I have been managing my GP pretty well, but I believe a virus has made things almost unbearable... I've been sucking on ginger candy for days now and drinking gingerale. I am so glad you are not as bad!!!!

I enjoyed reading your story. I'm a mom too, and recently told I have GP. I freaked once I researched the difficulties of having GP. I've been fortunate so far, I don't have nausea or vomiting (sometimes I think I was misdiagnosed), but I have all the other issues. I also don't have time to make one meal for myself and another for my non-GP family. This will be a challenge for me for sure. I'm not a gourmet cook either. I wish I had your positive attitude. Maybe with time I will.

Mom to mom you summed it up correctly. I live on ginger "tea". Peel fresh ginger, blend in a processor or if you have the energy grate it, steep in hot water, cover and let sit until warm. Strain and add enough water to make it palatable. You may add lemon juice, and/or honey to taste. NEVER use artificial sweetners. I use this as my liquid beverage of choice. A friend mentioned the use of fennel seed...will research this. Finally question...my gastro is at a loss...Wants me to try LOTORNEX...any advice

Oh wow I am so glad Botox worked! It really didn't do much for me. Have you tried Align? I swear it has changed my life - and it is over the counter. It takes almost a month to start seeing how it helps... of course as you know with GP, what works for some won't work for others.

Can you eat ground turkey? I have lost 30 pounds since I started walking and eating ground turkey every night.... my stomach tolerates it well.
