The Man Was Doomed Even Before The Cookies Arrived

Yesterday my co-worker and I went to a Chinese food restaurant for lunch. It was pretty empty due to the icy road conditions, so there wasn’t much privacy as far as conversation.

There was a couple nearby that was enjoying a good hot meal and happily whispered conversation. Giggles, smiles and flirting ala egg foo young. They seemed to be having a great time. Until the fortune cookies arrived.

I wasn’t paying attention until I heard the woman’s voice go up an octave. As I looked over, I noticed the woman was holding two fortunes in her hand. He was squirming and obviously uncomfortable. She was shaking a fortune at him, as if he had written it himself.

On the way out, he looked like a deer in the headlights. Poor man. Something had gone very wrong. And he was going to pay.

So what do I do? As soon as the door closes behind them, I sneak over and snag the fortunes. And laugh out loud. What are the odds. SERIOUSLY.

His fortune was all sunshine and roses. Lucky him!

That is, until she opened HER cookie.

What are the ODDS of these two cookies arriving at the same time, to a couple, in the order that they were opened. About one in a bajillion?

You just can’t make this stuff up.
