Your First Childhood Memory

old style tv

I was watching a black and white TV show that had a man standing next to a TV.  Inside that television was a man standing next to a TV.  And inside that one was a man standing next to a TV.  The images continued until they were too small to see.

When I awoke from this dream, I peered through the crib bars and saw my mother walking in to my bedroom.  She leaned over the railing and began to pick me up.

This is my first childhood memory.

Is it possible that this event really happened?  Can you truly remember something from such a young age?  I honestly believe this was a real moment in my early life.

I don’t have any other early memories.  Most of my “childhood memories” begin when I was around three or four.

I’m curious.  What is the earliest memory you have?  Was it pre-school age?  Toddler age?  Or even before that like my own first memory?

One of my earliest memories was going to visit my Great grandparents at their retirement apartment. We always had to stop and feed the ducks that lived in the pond on the property. They were such wonderful Great Grandparents.

    • Do you remember about how old you were?

I was about 3-4 years old. They passed away when I was 6 or 7.

  • Hmmm… my earliest childhood memory is when I was about 3 years old and my little brother was about 1 year old. He woke up crying in the middle of the night, and he wouldn’t go back to sleep. So I left my bedroom, went into his bedroom, and climbed into his crib. My mom found us sleeping the next morning. I think she might even have a photograph of that. She said it was the 1st time I was ever NICE to my baby brother.

    • OH WOW ! You have to ask her if she has the photo and put it on your blog! That is an awesome story. So you were helping others even way back then!

  • We moved so often that, until about 7, my memories are just a jumble of images. What an adorable photo of you.

  • Three must be about the time memories really engage. I remember a lot from 3 on… I have a crazy mind for remembering minutia.

    • I didn’t even think to “google” when people begin to remember things. I’ll have to check it out!

I don’t think I have any of my own memories until 10 or 11. Prior to that, I think the memories I possess are ones that were shared with me and I adopted as mine. Sad but true! Amazing to have early memories……how weird that must be.

    • Mel, that is what I thought about when remembering this one moment. Could someone have told me about it? But of course the dream is so vivid – and no one would have known what I dreamed… so I really think this happened. 🙂

I don’t have many early memories, which bothers me. But I do recall my brother breaking a mug in a store when I was 5 or so, and I distinctly remember my mom bringing my new baby sister home and laying her out on a yellow blanket for me to admire when I was about six. Seems strange to be able to recall that all these years later.
