Day 21 of the Photo Challenge:  “Broken”

Introducing Moon!

Femoral Head Ostectomy

A few years ago I rescued a deaf Dalmatian, Emma.  Many people who own deaf dogs get a second for companionship.  Emma is enough of a handful that I never actively looked for another.  I always told my daughter, “If a dog happened to fall in to our lap, I just might consider adopting it.”

And then came Moon.

“Mom, there is a puppy down the street who is being fostered.  He needs a home.  He has one blue eye and one brown eye and he is SOOOOOOO cute!”

Moon was found on a farm in pain with a broken back leg.  The Norfolk SPCA paid for his surgery through donations.  Moon had a Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO), in which the head of the femur is removed.  Scar tissue develops where the head used to be, although his leg will always be shorter than the other three.

Long story short, Emma has a new best friend and we have the most amazing second dog you could ever imagine.  A dog with a wonky broken leg and funny walk who simply fell in to our laps… and our hearts.

  • Moon is a very handsome boy!

  • Mel

    Bless your hearts.
    What a gorgeous face.
    And what a huge heart…..

  • I have a wonky broken leg and a funny walk, too. Moon and I would be the best of friends!

  • Pat Kumicich

I can see why that sweet face would melt your heart!

  • Awwww! What a sweetie! After nailing fake Barbie to the tree, I was wondering if your dark side had taken over. Nice to see that you still have a heart! (ha!)

  • Ron

    OMG…what sweet, precious face!

  • That’s a very unique dog. And you’re one very unique dog owner. Good on you.

  • Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! Welcome to the family, Moon!

  • In spite of being a premeditated murderer of fake Barbies, you really are quite the good-hearted soul. Your dogs are both lucky to have fallen into your laps & hearts. (After we had to put our dog down, I vowed this would be the only reason I’d ever have another dog in my life.)

  • I am so glad this worked out so beautifully for all of you! Moon doesn’t seem to be letting a gimpy leg get him down!

  • He has David Bowie eyes. Well done for taking him in!

  • Awww! And what a perfect name for a dog, too.

  • ladyV

awh he looks so sweet and lovable.

  • MikeWJ

I love her name, and her eyes. Genetically, I don’t understand how you can have two colors of eyes. It’s strangely beautiful, though, as is your adoption story.

  • Barb

AWWWWWWWW… Moon is adorable.. and lucky to have found you!!!!

  • Danielle Batog

Oh my gosh he is just tooooo adorable!!!

  • Jamie Baker

Who couldn’t fall in love with that face?

  • Awwwwwwwwwww!! I love love love hearing about people adopting pets! You are an angel!
