What Was Your Favorite Christmas Gift?
Published on Monday, January 2, 2012 by

Mine, hands down, came from my brother.  It was unique.  It was personal.  It was well thought out.  It was COOL.

catnip tea

Imagine pulling one of these things at a time out of a box.  Above?  Catnip, lemon balm and chamomile for infusions.  I also got two tea dippers, one for me and one for my daughter.  But even better?  A HAND WRITTEN page explaining each.  The catnip helps you fall asleep, the chamomile relaxes and calms the stomach while the lemon balm lifts your mood and keeps you alert.

hops and mugwort

herb bags

Next came two aroma therapy bags as well as hops and mugwort.  Again, the handwritten note told me that the hops instantly relaxes while the mugwort will induce lucid dreams.  Putting both of these in a bag and placing the bag on your pillow will give you a naturally restful sleep!

sushi supplies

sushi konbu

perfect sushi roll

Finally, SUSHI MAKING SUPPLIES!  A bag of konbu (I had to read up on that!), a rice paddle, seaweed, sushi molds and a “perfect roll” sushi maker, straight from Germany.  (Germany?)

Also included?  Another hand written page, front and back, with full sushi rice instructions.  ILLUSTRATION INCLUDED.  With today’s technology, I would have typed and printed it without a second thought.   How amazing to have hand written instructions made just for me.

Now that the new year is here, it’s back to both writing and visiting blogs.  I can’t wait to see what you have been up to!

What was your favorite Christmas or Hanukkah gift?  Who gave it to you and why did you love it?

Wow!!!!Your brother has really a good imagination!!!!Nice presents and specially very imaginative. Happy new Year!!!

    • You know, you got it exactly. My brother has a very VERY good imagination. He has always been incredibly imaginative. That worked REALLY well for me this Christmas!

  • I didn’t get any Christmas gifts by request.  So I don’t have a favorite.  Looks like you did really well.  Let me know how the Sushi kit worked.  Yummy.

    Have a terrific day.  🙂

    • Oh wow! No Christmas gifts! I actually wish people did NOT exchange gifts… the real reason for Christmas is so lost. What a great idea!

  • That is TOTALLY-SUPER-AWESOME!

I received two pairs of new pajamas from two of my friends. New slippers from my mom. And fabreeze from my son [which made me laugh out loud.]

    Happy New Year, Katherine.

PS: It was so much fun having you at the Bachelor Premiere Party last night on FB!

    • Fabreeze… that SO sounds like what my kids would give me!!!! I love it!

Jammies and slippers… PERFECT. I got two pairs of slippers and my dog keeps trying to eat them. DOH!

  • Those are absolutely lovely (even though I’m not a sushi fan, it’s still a really great idea for a gift!). I would LOVE those teas, since I’m not a coffee drinker, and those natural sleep aids are awesome! Happy New Year Katherine. All the best to you in 2012 🙂

    • Happy New Year!!!!! I’m a MAJOR coffee drinker, but I love tea too. And how cool is it to say you are drinking catnip?! Here’s to a year of amazing cheese and high heeled shoes!

  • Ron

Katherine, I’m LOVIN’ all your faaaaaaaabulous Christmas gifts!

I’ve studied and practice aromatherapy, therefore I know the powerful effect they have in supporting our physical well-being!

I also love Chamomile tea! I have a box in my pantry, which I use whenever I’m stressed out or can’t sleep. It works amazingly well!

Although I’ve never tried cat nip, I wonder if it would have the same effect it did on my cats?

They went WILD and then CRASHED – HA!

Happy New Year, my friend! I look forward to blogging with you in 2012!

P.S. my favorite gift this year was my new desk computer, which I gave to myself. I LOVE IT!

    • You know what Ron? Today was a very stressful day. After dinner I eyed the wine I had in the fridge and then walked away. Instead I am sipping catnip tea and have my herb ready for my pillow. VERY relaxing. I wish i had somewhere near me that had things for aromatherapy. Are there any good websites that teach about it and sell it?

Favorite gift?  Gosh–probably the handpainted mitten from the 2 year old that I’m going to love forever!

Well, that and the crayoned photo on the fridge.  I won’t be washing the fridge for a while.  LOLOL

I can’t do tea–it feels dishonorable to my coffee addiction.  LOL
But the ritual of that later evening coffee ‘taking’ is more important than what’s in the cup, I imagine.
Hold on………THAT can’t be true!!!!!  ROFL

  • Your gifts (and everyone else’s) are great.  I have now graduated to a Smart Phone, so I would have to say that’s my favorite gift.

  • What a thoughtful, creative brother you have.   I got some very nice presents, but the best gift was getting to spend Christmas with family again after five years of not being able to for various reasons.

  • Jay

Those are great gifts!  Mugwort for lucid dreams?  Oh, now I want some!  Whenever I find myself lucid dreaming I always take off and fly, and it’s always a memorable ‘experience’!

My favourite gift?  Oh, it’s so hard to say … there’s the device my husband had put in my car so I can listen to my iPod while driving – that’s pretty cool and will be appreciated each time I drive for quite some time!  And one of my sons made and carved me a bookmark with a greyhound head at the top, and gave me a beautiful Japanese penknife in a beautiful wooden box, also handmade by him, AND (a joint gift to me and my husband) he made us a set of wooden coasters.   The other son gave me a lot of cool stuff, too.  I am lucky – like you!
