Express Yourself
Published on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 by

After a month of writing, we finally get a bit of a break with this month’s photo challenge, “Express Yourself!”

1. This is River, our “foster fail.”  We were fostering her, fell in love with her and adopted her ourselves.  The decision was made the moment we realized she expresses herself by howling.  Every time one of us walks in she shows her joy with a wolfpack welcome that includes howling in the traditional wolf stance.  What better thing is there to come home to!lab mix

2.  This is Demon, a cat my friend rescued along with Demon’s sister, Angel.  For the first month, Demon expressed himself by remaining under the bed.  Now he expresses his happiness by lounging on all the furniture.

3.  This bufflehead chose to express his love for his female the minute I took out my camera.  He was very far away so it is hard to see, but this guy mates by pushing the female under the water while he does what he needs to do.  Really?!

4. This blue heron expressed his displeasure at me getting closer for a shot by flying across the pond.

5. My friend’s dog Henri is expressing himself with a special weekend hairdo.  Wear what you like, not what others think you should wear!

Katherine, was a faaaaaaabulous collection of photographs for this challenge!! Love them all!

“…but this guy mates by pushing the female under the water while he does what he needs to do. Really?!”

    Hahahahahahaha! OMG…what an animal!

River is such a beautiful girl! What a great profile!

Have an awesome week, my friend!

    • Thank you Ron, and you too!!!! I hope one day I find myself near your area… I would so love to have you show me the city…. we could annoy people by taking photos of EVERYTHING!!!

I laughed at the names for the kitties! Expressing oneself is obviously not restricted to the human animal, is it! And, I love the curls on Henri. I know a lot of women who would really like to have them on their heads. Great selection.

    • When my friend said she would “foster” the cats, I said, “Oh you are SO STUCK WITH THEM.” Sure enough she caved … they were so scared. She worked with them and lured them out. And the names are so fitting. Demon is truly the “demon” of the two… but in a good way. He is a lot of fun to watch as he gets in to trouble. And Angel is shy and quiet. They are lucky to have found their way to Joan! 🙂

One more thing (my finger was too fast)…I think it’s fantastic you have a “foster fail” and a new member of the family. She sounds like a lot of fun.

Thanks for a Tuesday morning smile, which started small and grew until it reached ear-to-ear as I read your captions. We all need a stretch of river in our lives. Congratulations on adding a River to your family!

  • There is a lot of Awww in this post.

We’ll be watching the ducks do this pretty soon. All the head bobbing and then wham, under she goes while he does his thing. Doesn’t take him long either and that’s a good thing for the lady duck.

Have a fabulous day, Katherine. ☺

    • So it isn’t just buffleheads… it is all ducks? Those poor females!!!! I have seen multiple males gang up on one duck too. Time for a female duck march ha ha ha!

    lovely photos 🙂

After writing so many words in January you let your furry / feathered friends do the “talking” 🙂

  • Let’s hope I never am reincarnated as a duck.

Love the pictures. River looks darling! Demon does look like he means business. Does Angel look angelic?

I love all your photos and I’ve noticed all five shots are different animals who have helped you express yourself. If I was a ducked underwater for mating, then I’d definitely swim away! I love henri’s curls and it’s good your fostering failed, i think if i fostered a dog I’d do the same as you.

  • Mike Davis

I don’t think there is anything more expressive than a dog’s ears.

  • Wonderful pictures, Katherine. I love the animal theme here. Those pups are so cute.

  • All photo exposures are gorgeous to see and you have a great captured skill there is no doubt . Like your shoots .
