Deva Cut, Take Three

You may recall my first Devacurl Deva Cut.  What a horrible flop.  Since then I changed to the head (and more expensive) (and more experienced) stylist.  Things have worked out better since then.

Ever since my son’s month in the hospital, or his “heart shenanigans” as he calls it, my hair has become even more of a mess.  First of all, I have a streak of white that has decided to plant itself right in the middle of my gray.  Stress does that.  To make things worse I am losing hair as a result of the stress I experienced from the intensive care unit to open heart surgery.

Top it all off with the fact that my hair is stupid, frizzy, dry and doesn’t take to any products that other curly haired girls love.  Even Deva Curl lotions and potions look amazing in the salon but instantly frizz me by the time I get home.

This month I decided I had enough of the gray roots and moppy hair.  It was time to treat myself to a dye and a devacut.  Something I only allow myself once a year.  Too bad all this curly haired beauty only lasts until I get home!

These clips are ESSENTIAL to a good curly hair style.  They are pretty much the ONLY thing from Devacurl that works on me.  I have bags of them ALL over my house.

Here is the finished product.  But wait… there is a rogue bit of frizz already starting on the bottom right!  I better take one more picture before I turn back in to a pumpkin!

I sent this picture to my fellow curly haired friend and wrote, “Look at it now because you will never see it like this again!”

I always try to enjoy the moment.  And in this case, I had to do it quickly.  Because my hair?  Well….

Curly hair isn’t a hairstyle… it’s a lifestyle!

  • While I have curly hair there is no “underlying” cuteness in my hair. I blow dry it and flat iron it into submission (totally straight) every morning. I went back to your first Devacurl cut (I for some reason missed that post) and I have to say that is not what I would by any stretch call a flop. First of all you are so darn pretty, you could rock any hair style and we would all think you look great.

I love your curls. I am not familiar with those little clips. However you get those curls to look like that is worth the effort. When I occasionally let my curls show, I use

TIGI Catwalk Curls Rock Curl Amplifier or similar products that help define the curls and cut down on the frizz but 20 minutes outside pretty much turn my hair into a Caucasian version of an “afro”. How a hairdo can look so good on Tina Turner but look so horrible on me is one of life’s greatest mysteries.

    • I can’t tell you how many products I have used from what they call the “ethnic aisle.” Because yup, that is my hair!!!! The Tina Turner comment cracked me up!!!!! Some women can do it and some can’t. Maybe it is because everyone is concentrating on her legs? 🙂

  • My hair is short and straight. Boring actually, but it’s my hair and it is what it is. Exactly the same thing you’re saying.

    Have a fabulous day. ☺

    • My daughter has super straight hair. She will deep condition it and it is so soft I want to pet it! I love straight hair!

    “Curly hair isn’t a hairstyle… it’s a lifestyle!”

HA! Katherine, I freaking LOVE the way you said that because it’s so true! Having been a hairstylist for 13 years, I understand the challenges of curly hair. Yet I have to say that it was MY FAVORITE hair to cut, color and style. I think curly (and wavy) hair is so sexy.

Your devacut looks faaaaaaaaaabulous! And I also love the color. I was a huge promoter of red hair when I was a stylist. I think red hair ROCKS!

“It was time to treat myself to a dye and a devacut. Something I only allow myself once a year.”

Good for you! And after all you went through last year, you deserve it!

Have a super weekend, my friend!

    • I haven’t had a computer for weeks! Now I’m back YEAAAA!!!!!
So get this… I found a post that mentioned what Bernadette Peters uses. And guess what? It is discontinued! HOW TYPICAL IS THAT!
I DID find a bit left online and spent too much money. For three days in a row a stranger complimented me on my curls. Yup… the discontinued stuff. What can I say! 🙂
