Until Next Year, My Beautiful Ocean

pelican and sunrise

Remember me? I ‘m still here! It has just been a whirlwind, as I’m sure it has been with all of you. Holidays… Bah!

Last weekend was our final visit to Corolla until spring of next year.  This is almost a time of mourning for me. Leaving home is hard. Leaving the only place where you truly find peace is even harder.

Saturday there was a cover of fog across the dunes and beyond. However, when I reached the beach I found myself in a clear pocket with white swallowing up the far north and south. I began to walk, keeping my eyes both down for seaglass and up for the pelicans, gulls and dolphins.

I was completely tranquil, feeling almost a part of the beach itself. My thoughts wandered here and there as I walked…  alone as far as the eye could see.

I began to notice a warm breeze swirling around me – quite strange for such a cool day. A gust would rush around me, warming my skin yet leaving a slight hint of cold at the end. As this continued, the sun peaked through the clouds and in seconds the fog had completely burned off. It was purely magical.

After my walk I plopped myself down on the sand, still completely alone, taking in every aspect of the things around me. In those last few minutes I told the beach goodbye.

Corolla is at its most beautiful in October, November and December. The pictures I am sharing were all taken in the last few months of 2014. Goodbye beach, until spring.

  • Not sure why you’re not visiting until next spring, but it’s apparent that you love your beach. What’s not to love.

    Have a fabulous day. ☺

    • Mom closed the house for the winter. I miss it so much. But I’m getting a lot of work done here, so I see the good side. 🙂

  • I feel for you but, as Sandee said, can’t you go back and visit before the spring?

    • No… sadly Mom closes the house for the winter. In a way it is good because I can get a lot done at my “home” home that I can’t get done when away for weekends. But I feel such a longing for the ocean. Funny because I actually live in a beach town – but the ocean front here is NASTY… nothing natural… hotels everywhere, shops and trucked in sand. But again, I look at what I got done here in the house this weekend and see the benefit to being home for a while. 🙂

Katherine, Katherine, Katherine, first I have to say….FREAKING FAAAAAAABULOUS PHOTOGRAPHS! You have no idea how impressed I am with these pictures. OMG…they’re faaaaaaabulous!

That first one of the seagull flying over the ocean took my breath away! And the one (in the slideshow) of the early morning misty over the beach homes is stunning! And the ones of the cloudy ocean sky at night, FANTABULOUS!

Truly, my friend, you have a very special talent with the camera! And with each photo you share, you keep getting more and more talented.

Second, whenever you speak of the beach and ocean, I can tell how connected you are to them. It’s like how I feel about living in a city. We feel it in our SOULS.

    Great post!

    • We feel it in our souls. YES, Ron. EXACTLY. And to hear you say my photos are good means SO MUCH because you have an eye for taking pictures that is beyond anyone I know. I LOVE your pictures… the things you capture are amazing. So thank you!!!
