Day nine asks us to portray “Disguise” in the photo challenge called “Bob.”  I do hope Mike WJ wears his batman disguise for THIS one!

I love how this cicada turned to see if anyone was looking before he broke out of his disguise.

You can see me in his eyeball….. sweet!

  • I love those things. We used to find their shells on pine trees when we were kids. We’d pluck them off and hang them on our fingers.

  • *gags*

    *runs away screaming*

    *totally traumatized*

Okay, this is like SO clever for this theme, Katherine!!!

    STELLAR capture, girl!!!!!

  • Good gracious! What IS that thing? I’m sometimes thankful that I live in the UK 🙂

  • That’s an amazing catch, Katherine. We still have cicadas whining in the trees. Seems a little late in the season but maybe it means summer temperatures will stay with us for awhile. We can only hope. That cicada of yours is a shell of his former self.

  • That is by far the coolest self-portrait I’ve ever seen!

    • Oh, that wasn’t nice. Now, say you’re sorry.

Judging by the sounds I hear at night, I’m surrounded by millions of cicadas. But until now, I’ve never seen one. They’re butt ugly, and a little demonic-looking. Ziva will love it.

OMG, I wasn’t reading closely and didn’t realize that was you fixed in the thing’s eye. That’s super-creepy. Imagine if it got together with 5,000 of its friends and decided to eat you.

  • ReformingGeek

Wow, fantastic photography, but I’m about to lose my lunch.

Much better. I think Cat would make short work of that thing.

  • Jackal

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew ! THUD – that was me fainting.

  • That’s so sci fi looking.

  • I absolutely love this! I’d forgotten how big their eyes are. I’d never have thought you could be reflected back in those things. Really sweet!

  • MalisaHargrove

Those are the nosiest buggers ever! I had an aunt who loved to play jokes and they were often jokes to scare us kids. She is the one who make me afraid of butterflies. She used to gather up the empty cicada shells and put them on top of her grandkids’ breakfast cereal.Yikes!

  • I never knew what they looked like. Now I can never not know.

  • How big is that thing?
Bugs don’t bother me. But that looks like a Transformer.

  • Wow, we hear them all the time but I’ve never once seen one. According to the second pic though, he sees you!

  • Nice one. I have to kill these things all the time. They are loud.

  • That’s the coolest thing every, Katherine! I’ve always found the empty shells, but I’ve never seen the actual insect.

  • Your picture is awesome but cicadas creep me out as many bugs do. Ick…still a great picture though.

  • You are A-mazing! Your timing and your capturing of this moment is breathtaking!
