California Dreamin’

California dreaming is all my daughter has been doing since her best friend moved there more than three years ago. For those three years I have promised her that someday, somehow I would get her across country to see her best friend again.

With my lack of blog posts over the last two weeks, you may have already figured it out. Last Saturday my daughter and I boarded her first plane and began an adventure of a life time. For the last week we have been making memories that we will both hold forever in our hearts.

I have to begin with one of the best moments I have ever experienced. The reunion of two best friends after three long years. I can’t watch this without crying. The feeling of joy that spreads over me is completely overwhelming.

This is the view from my end. My daughter ran ahead, making it impossible to follow and film lugging her bags and mine. It shows just how excited she was.

This is the view from her friend’s side, taken by her mother.

Over the last seven days, we have been staying in the San Francisco area and exploring everywhere from Half Moon Bay to the Monterey waterfront to Carmel to Point Lobos State Reserve to China Town to Napa Valley to…. Oh my goodness, this is going to be more than one post.

Pictures? I got ‘em! We have had so many adventures, from me being fussed at by a China Town shop owner (how dare I unfold a shirt to see what the whole design is!) to being snapped at by the cable car driver (You.. sit. YOU….. YOU SIT! SIT!!!!!)

I have seen things with my daughter that we never even imagined possible on this trip. We were overjoyed simply staying with her friend for a week. But her family had much more in store for us.  Sometimes it is perfectly fine to strap on your camera and play the tourist. And that we did!

Did I mention I spent an afternoon with the fabulous blogger Linda Medrano during this California trip? She is one of the most beautiful and fascinating women I have ever met.

For now though I have to go to bed. I have slept for only three hours since Saturday morning at 7 a.m. Right now it is Sunday at 9:13 p.m. More to come later. Good night!

  • That sounds like an absolutely wonderful adventure for you and your daughter. So glad she was finally reunited with her best friend. I sensed the intense pleasure that gave you. I expect you can keep us entertained for quite awhile recounting this awesome trip.

    • My favorite place to explore was China Town, with Half Moon Bay coming in at a very close second. Such a beautiful state!

  • How fun and I loved both videos. I’m so happy you’re having a fabulous time. What a fun post.

    Have a terrific day. 🙂

    • I am still on a high and it has been a week. What a beautiful place!

Katherine, I was smiling from ear to ear reading this post! I am soooooo happy that you’re taking this trip with your daughter and having a great time; making memories that you’ll both hold in your hearts. FOREVER!

” I can’t watch this without crying. The feeling of joy that spreads over me is completely overwhelming.”

And I got teary-eyed just watching it! And I love how you post two videos, one from each side. BRILLIANT!

Have a GREAT time in California, my friend! Looking foward to hearing and seeing more about it!

    • Ron, she gave me her two carry on bags while I was already carrying my own. Then she said I had to take a video… be sure I got a video. When she saw her friend she BOLTED and I was running behind attempting to film without falling on my face. It was so funny.

Oh my gosh did I think of you in China Town… literally. So many buildings to take pictures of… so many odd things, bizarre things… beautiful things. The kids were with us so I could not stop and really spend time taking pictures, but I did get some I can’t wait to share. I thought about you walking the city taking pictures and felt just like you! It was actually my first real city!

  • Hey Katherine! Now THIS sounds like an adventure! More please! Indigo x

    • I am such a non-rule breaker… yet I got bitched at (there is NO OTHER WORD) by an old Chinese woman who spoke broken English because I unfolded two of the shirts in her store to see the picture on the front. She took one out of my hands and scowled… YOU DON’T OPEN SHIRT! YOU LOOK AT PICTURE UP THERE!!!! I looked up and there were a few of the t-shirts mounted on the wall… but not the ones I wanted to see! I did NOT buy the two shirts I liked because she fussed at me. So THERE, Lady!!!! PFFTTTTTTT!!!!!
