When I was pregnant with my second child, I was sure to tell my first the truth about the birds and the bees. When he asked how the baby would come out, I told him. This came to haunt me a few months later. We were in the Bread Company store in line, ready to order. My friendly first child began to introduce himself to the teenage boy behind the counter. I watched, baby on my hip, as my first son said (loudly), “Hi! My name is David! This is my mommy Katherine. And this is my brother, Michael. Michael came out of Mommy’s v****a!” Yes folks, he said the V word as loud as he could, while he pointed, just in case the teenager didn’t know where that was. The entire store stopped talking. I paid for my bread, walked outside and laughed out loud.
