Photo Challenge Day 29: The City
Published on Monday, October 29, 2012 by

Downtown Norfolk is flooded.  The winds are starting to kick in.  I just don’t think it wise to swim my way to The City for a photo op!

My next best choice involves Fake Barbie, some foil and many prayers for those in Sandy’s path.  Especially for those in THE city.  America’s most well known city.  The city that many of my family and best bloggers live in and near.  NEW YORK!

Norfolk will probably have power outages and downed trees along with the water-filled roads.  But this is something we have faced many times before.

This time, Sandy will be bullying her way in to areas not normally hit by storms like her.  For all of you in her way, I wish you safety, fresh water and electricity.  Godspeed!

  • This is so beautiful and heartfelt. Even Fake Barbie looks sincere. (Really sweet shot, Katherine.)

Stay as warm and dry as you can. We’re in the same boat up here (quite literally).

It’s hard not to worry about my friends in NYC (who have no place to go except up), NY state, PA, NJ, MD, DE, and DC who really don’t have much of anywhere to go to get out of Sandy’s path.

  • Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. I love Fake Barbie and her outfit!

So far, so good, over here with respects to the storm. However, I’m
in central NJ about 40 minutes inland from the coast. And the rain is
really starting to fall now and the winds are definitely picking up.
Also, Atlantic City is already under water just from the storm surges and they have yet to receive another 10-12 inches of rain.

Apparently the worst is still to come.

    Please stay safe too!

    XOXOXO

  • Ah, the Statue of Barbie. I was okay until I saw that tinfoil hat. I worry about you.

    Katherine, you are BEYOND clever!

    This photo is faaaaaaaaaaaaabulous!

    Lady Liberty Barbie!

Here in PA we’ve only gotten high winds and rain, but nothing too severe. However, later today into tonight we’re getting hit the hardest.

Take care, my friend. And be safe!

    (((((( You ))))))

You’re killing me with the Barbie theme – you Rock!

Never before have I felt so patriotic and simultaneously aroused. Thank you, fake Barbie for watching out for America with your shining Q.

P.S. — Katherine, all joking aside, I hope you, your relatives, friends and everybody on the eastern seaboard keep dry and safe for the next few days. I think it’s going to be particularly bad in New Jersey and New York, and given their populations, that could spell disaster for a lot of folks, including some of my friends. Let’s hope for the best. And remember folks, the weather in Colorado is always pretty mild, and we make a great green chile here, too.

  • Katherine, that wins the whole day! Your creativity has me floored!
I hope that you are safe, dry, and still with power.

  • Hah!! What an awesome idea, Katherine, I love it. That said, stay safe and hold onto your power, there is no surviving without the internet. 😉

  • Mel

    I’m relieved..and I adore the photo.

STAY safe and be smart, eh?

  • Ah…you even have some lens flare action going on.

  • I love me some Fake Barbie! Long may she shine!
